McMenamins History: Steve “Scotty” Hutton

As has been mentioned here in the past, we are in the process of renaming several of the Kennedy School guestrooms to celebrate the people who attended, worked and taught at the school. One of those is Steve Hutton, the Kennedy School’s Scottish janitor – today’s Boiler Room Bar was his domain. He made lasting, lifelong impressions on generations of kids who attended Kennedy.

A Plot to Kill a President?

April 15th marked the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination at Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C. OregonLive posted an interesting story this afternoon about The Oregonian’s coverage of the event – the news only having reached this far west three days after the shooting. 

Were you aware that in 1906, the original owners of what is known today as McMenamins White Eagle, Barney Sobolewski and Joe Hryszko, were embroiled in a supposed assassination plot against a U.S. president?
