A New Mission for The Mission Theater

April brings about a change in the season, and for us it brings about a change in our McMenamins music world. At the end of April the Mission Theater will be transforming from a live event and music venue to a first run movie theater. While we are excited to re-open our doors with this new take on the Mission, we are also looking back fondly and reflecting on all of the amazing music and events that have graced this historic stage.

Over the years the Mission stage has seen some monumental acts pass through it’s doors. Did you know that a young Adele performed on our stage, long before her break into stardom? We’ve also seen the likes of Deer Tick, The Mountain Goats, The Dandy Warhols, Built To Spill, Cass McCombs, and you may have recognized the setting of Mortified Nation in their 2013 movie release. This month we will see some of most beloved acts come and bid farewell to the Mission. The Resolectrics, Mexican Gunfight, and Lewi Longmire & the Left Coast Roasters on April 5, Miz Kitty’s Parlor will be celebrating their 17th season finale show on April 13! And Garcia Birthday Band, who have been a monthly staple on our stage, will be having their Mission finale on April 26. And The Parson Red Heads will be saying the final farewell to music at the Mission with Liquid Light and Rainstorm Brother on April 29!

April is full of our normal eclectic events, check out the full schedule here, and please come out and be a part of this magical month of transformation with us!

While it’s always nice to have new movie-screening options, I’m very disappointed to hear this, as I’d only just discovered the Mission (when I went with a friend to a live, non-musical event). Oh, well.

I’ve had some really special times watching old movies at the Mission. I’m sad you’re switching to first-run. What’s special about that?

Hmm…what about all of Poison Water’s events (Drag Queen Bingo, Academy Awards Show, just to name a couple.) Please say they will be continued just in a different venue. Right???

Yes we will be in the Kennedy School and Backstage Bar at the Baghdad, and you never know which other locations I’ll pop up at?! Thanks, Poison/Kevin

Huge bummer. We already have plenty of movie theaters and too few music venues.

So you won’t be having the Kentucky Derby May 4h? I see it on the calendar page. Please clarify. Thanks
